Focus on the Solution, Not the problem | Victor Benoun

As entrepreneurs, things don’t always go the way we would like. Especially when you are working on a transaction and there are many players involved and situations arise that you did not create, and yet are dropped in your lap with the expectation that you will resolve and fix it.

I just went through a really tough phase, a bumpy patch for sure just like this recently. I was working on several mortgage loans and it seemed like nothing went right no matter what I did. On top of that, I had several people reminding me how everything was going wrong.

I encountered sleepless nights, regular upset stomachs and was turning into a nervous wreck. It seemed like no matter what I did, more and more problems occurred, in fact all I could see were problems.

Has this ever happened to you: “Just when I thought things couldn’t get worse…this happened!” And then…this happened! And then this, and then this! Sound familiar?

The more you focus on a problem, the more problems you create and the bigger they become because all you can see is the problem. One of the most difficult things to do when you feel like you are being beaten down by life, is to shift your focus from the problem, to searching and concentrating on a solution. And yet that is exactly what has to be done.

My suggestion is that when you find yourself in the thick of it (and if you are an entrepreneur you will at some point) take breaks, find reasons to laugh and keep your eye on the solution. At some point the problem will pass, the solution will be accomplished and everyone will be happy. Even you
