Solving Problems | Victor Benoun

Everyone has problems.  It’s a sign that you are alive.

In fact I say, there is nothing like a good quality problem to make you feel alive.  No?

There are times in our lives where we feel like we have the weight of the world on our shoulders, and the pressure practically overcomes us.  In previous years, I would have banged away at a problem, until I had some type of resolution, usually making myself sick in the process.

In more recent times I have learned a very effective formula for working out the challenges that come my way; I take a break.  That may sound counter-intuitive from what you think should be done, so let me explain.

Albert Einstein said, “you can’t solve a problem with the same mind that created it.”

When I feel overwhelmed and headaches are mounting, I step away, I go out for a cup of coffee, I call a friend.  I do all I can to change the energy! I do everything I can to change the way I am thinking and change the mind that created the annoyance in the first place.

Now, here is the key!

When I return to face whatever it is that I am dealing with I must change the way I am approaching the situation.  I must change my behavior or I will fall back into the same trap I was originally facing.  The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

In a nutshell, I’ve learned the problem isn’t the problem.

It’s the way I approach it.

If I find myself running an old program through my head that stops me dead in my tracks and keeps me from seeing the  opportunities before me, I step away, call a friend, go to a movie, have a few laughs, change the energy.

Annoyances will continue to knock on my door, however, I have an effective way of answering them.
