Do you have dreams and goals you truly desire to conquer in your life, but believe them to be impossible? If that’s the case, do you know why you believe it? Were you told they are impossible, or do you have your own beliefs and perhaps self-imposed limitations?
Look, we all do it, stop ourselves from achieving our greatest potential at times. But what if we asked, “why is this impossible? Is there a specific obstacle we must overcome? What really has to take place to make our goal possible?”
I have a situation now I am working on. No, I’m not changing the course of history or discovering life on a new planet, or even inventing a new get rich quick scheme. I am helping someone who needs to close a real estate transaction in less than 2 weeks. I have been a mortgage professional for 34 years. Normally it takes 30 to 45 days in this current regulation, guideline, legal world that we live in to complete a home loan.
I was told it will be impossible to close a loan so quickly. At first I concurred and shook my head yes in agreement. Then I started to think about it. Why? My obstacle was a time factor and that was all. Instead of looking at the entire goal as being unachievable I was able to dissect and isolate the one problem area. All I have to do to accommodate our client is A, B, C and D. Then it can close quickly. I shared this way of thinking with my team. We all got excited about it and agreed, it would be fun to make this happen for someone. We shifted our belief system and feelings from one of we can’t, to one of we can. Everyone was on board. The transaction is closing today in 1 ½ weeks: a modern day miracle.
Next time someone tells you something is impossible, don’t take it at face value. Kick it around in your head a bit. Think it over. Ask, why; exactly what is impossible about it? Everything that exists in our world today was impossible at some previous time. If someone is telling you it can’t be done, question that person….even if that someone is you!
